All good things come to an end. But with recycling, things can become way better—and in the case of New Zealand-based homeware brand Special Studio, it bears fruit in stunning, one-of-a-kind pieces that will surely make your space look effortlessly and sustainably chic.
Special Studio creates modern and timeless homeware through innovative production using recycled plastic. All Special Studio products are made in-house locally, using 100% recycled plastic.
Special Studio’s designs are reminiscent of the charmingly imperfect textures found in nature in combination with abstract structures, all balanced with a palette of colors that so beautifully stands out in any room or space, making for a truly remarkable piece to add to your collection.
As a brand that wears their commitment to sustainability on their sleeve, opting for eco-friendly alternatives for their packaging is inevitable, so they partnered with noissue to create branded packaging materials to add a special touch to every delivery. Tell us a bit about your brand!
Special Studio is a design and production company based in Tauranga NZ specializing in large format 3D printing with recycled materials.
All Special Studio products are made from 100% recycled plastic and are recyclable. We have inhouse recycling so that customers can send back their products if they are damaged or no longer wanted and we can turn the material back into new products.
Our goal is to create a fully circular system to produce and recycle all types of products and to do so locally. Currently we focus on homewares and furniture and have a range of stools, side tables, planters, and rubbish bins with more to come.
Tell us about the design for your packaging and how you’re using them?
Customer experiences are really important at Special Studio and we wanted packaging that was functional, looks great, and is sustainable. Our old packaging wasn't the best, so we designed a new tissue paper and water activated tape and included a couple of messages to our customers in the design.
The tissue paper thanks our customers for recycling while protecting our products from scratches. On the tape we added the phrase "Special Delivery" playing on our brand name and that our retail packaging is also used when shipping the products.
What made noissue a good fit for your packaging?
It was a bit embarrassing to ship our products covered in plastic bubble wrap when our whole business is around finding better uses for plastics. For us switching to noissue was a no brainer. The recyclability of paper based packaging fit with our goal of reducing plastic and we couldn't be more stoked with the outcome.
